Welcome to A Letter to Me. These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of alettertome.com, our workshops, online letter services, gift certificates, The Letter Shop, and all other products and services offered by A Letter to Me. By accessing our website, registering for a workshop, submitting an online letter, purchasing products, or using any of our services, you agree to these Terms.
1. Our Services
A Letter to Me offers experiences and products including, but not limited to:
- In-person letter-writing workshops
- Online future letter services
- Private workshops
- Gift certificates
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any service at any time.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase services or register for workshops unless otherwise stated for a specific event or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
3. Mailing Addresses
Future letters are currently mailed only to valid United States mailing addresses.
You are solely responsible for providing a complete and accurate mailing address.
If your address changes before your scheduled mailing date, you must update it using our Update My Address page.
A Letter to Me is not responsible for delays, returned mail, or failed deliveries resulting from incorrect, incomplete, or outdated address information provided by you.
4. Letter Privacy
Your privacy is important to us.
Workshop participants place their own letter into the envelope and seal it with wax before it is securely stored.
Online letters are securely stored until they are printed and prepared for mailing.
We do not intentionally read or share the contents of your letters. However, authorized personnel may have limited access only as necessary to print and prepare online letters for mailing.
Once a workshop letter has been sealed or an online letter has been submitted, it is considered final and cannot be edited, modified, retrieved, released, copied, or returned prior to its scheduled mailing date.
5. Mailing Schedule
Letters are generally mailed approximately one year after the workshop date or online submission date.
Mailing dates are estimates and may vary due to holidays, weekends, weather, USPS delays, or other circumstances beyond our control.
Once your future letter has been accepted by the United States Postal Service (USPS), A Letter to Me has completed its mailing obligation.
From that point forward, USPS is solely responsible for delivery.
If your letter is delayed, lost, damaged, misdelivered, or marked as delivered but cannot be located, you must contact USPS directly or submit a Missing Mail Search through USPS.
We are happy to provide available mailing information to assist with your USPS inquiry; however, we cannot retrieve, replace, recreate, resend, refund, or otherwise compensate for letters that are lost, delayed, stolen, damaged, or mishandled after USPS has accepted them.
6. Retrieval of Letters
One of the core principles of A Letter to Me is preserving the surprise and integrity of receiving your own words in the future.
For that reason, once a letter has been submitted to us, it becomes part of our future mailing experience.
Letters cannot be:
- Retrieved
- Returned
- Released early
- Opened by request
- Copied
- Scanned
- Photographed
- Emailed
- Picked up in person
- Delivered before their scheduled mailing date
Requests to retrieve, remove, release, cancel, or obtain a submitted letter before its scheduled mailing date cannot be accommodated under any circumstances.
If you decide that you no longer wish to receive your future letter, you may contact us before its mailing date. At our sole discretion, we may securely destroy the unopened letter. Under no circumstances will a submitted letter be returned or released before its scheduled mailing date.
7. Returned Mail
If USPS returns your future letter as undeliverable, we will make one reasonable attempt to contact you using the email address you provided.
If we do not receive an updated mailing address within a reasonable time, your unopened letter may be securely destroyed to protect your privacy.
A Letter to Me is not responsible for returned mail caused by incorrect addresses, forwarding issues, or USPS delivery problems.
8. Workshops
Workshop seating is limited.
Participants are expected to behave respectfully toward fellow guests, venue staff, and workshop hosts.
We reserve the right to refuse service or remove any participant whose behavior is disruptive, abusive, threatening, or inappropriate. No refund will be issued in these situations.
Workshop dates, venues, and instructors are subject to change if necessary.
9. Cancellations & Refunds
Please refer to our Refund Policy for complete details regarding cancellations, refunds, transfers, and product returns.
10. Gift Certificates
Gift certificates are non-refundable except where required by law.
Gift certificates may not be redeemed for cash.
Lost or stolen gift certificates may not be replaceable.
11. Intellectual Property
All content on this website, including text, graphics, photographs, logos, workshop materials, writing prompts, downloads, and designs, is the property of A Letter to Me unless otherwise noted.
No content may be copied, reproduced, distributed, modified, or used without our prior written permission.
12. Website Use
You agree not to use this website for any unlawful purpose or in any way that interferes with its operation or security.
Attempts to gain unauthorized access to our systems or misuse this website may result in termination of access and legal action where appropriate.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, A Letter to Me shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from participation in workshops, online letter services, product purchases, USPS delivery issues, website interruptions, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount paid for the specific product or service giving rise to the claim.
14. Force Majeure
We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform due to events beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, natural disasters, fire, flood, pandemics, labor disputes, governmental actions, postal interruptions, or other unforeseen circumstances.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions at any time.
The most current version will always be posted on this page with the updated Effective Date.
Your continued use of our website or services constitutes acceptance of any revised Terms.
16. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
Any legal action relating to these Terms shall be brought in the appropriate state or federal courts located in New York.
